Bill Clinton was a regular visitor to what is now Rosemont. His first victorious "morning after" celebration was held in this fine old 1880s farmhouse. Someone suggested a commemorative photo, so they all gathered on the front porch for the now famous photograph President-elect and Hillary Clinton, his mother, Virginia Kelly, and the much talked about FOBs, Friends of Bill. The photo is memorialized in My Life by Bill Clinton (facing page 283).
Less than a 5-minute drive from Rosemont is the sprawling Clinton Library complex. You can drive right to the entrance, park and spend a couple of exhilarating days visiting the world as it existed during the Clinton Administration The library is in a park-like setting at the end of President Clinton Boulevard in Little Rock's River Market District. You will be just three blocks from The Clinton Museum Store located in a restored storefront.
Rosemont is walking distance to the Governor's Mansion, home to the Clintons from 1979 to 1993 (with one two year break). His extraordinary Cabinet was assembled while he was still in residence and neighbors became accustomed to the presence of political celebrities and the national press. Clinton also jogged daily from here, generally down Broadway, past Rosemont, so he could end up at his favorite McDonald's at Broadway & Seventh Street. The Governor's Mansion lends its name to the historic district surrounding it. Countless homes, churches, an elementary school, an urban college, and the South Main Business District have flourished under historic district zoning protection. Rosemont is situated in the middle of this area allowing you to explore the neighborhood on foot accompanied by our series of Historic Homes Tour brochures, or drive it, if you choose. The Restored Quapaw Quarter Is Bill Clinton's Beloved Neighborhood
The area known as the Governor's Mansion Historic District was the Clinton's neighborhood for over twelve years and they were true neighbors. Hillary opened the Mansion to any neighborhood group who asked. Bill or Hillary took Chelsea to a nearby school every morning, attended neighborhood functions, ate in the restaurants, walked and jogged the streets and attended church services. After the 1999 tornado, President Clinton came back to the neighborhood and covered the entire area on foot, stopping to talk to former neighbors sharing their grief over the damage to irreplaceable historic homes.
